Facebook Live Location
Facebook Newsroom

It’s true; Facebook has now given its users to share their live location for an hour through Facebook Messenger. This feature will help users to share their location within a private or group message thread, while the recipient can estimate the travel time you can take to reach them. It has been rolled out for Android and iOS users.

How to use this feature:

  • Inside a message thread, tap the Location button or locate it in the ‘More’ menu
  • On the map, tap the blue bar to start sharing your Live Location
  • Recipients will see your exact location on a map for 60 minutes, and an estimated time of arrival by vehicle for you to reach them
  • A clock in the corner of the map counts down until your location sharing expires and you can hit Stop Sharing at any time

Live location feature was ready in October 2016; however company worked for five more months to minimize battery consumption of phones. This feature is helpful when someone is trying to coordinate with friends or telling your close ones how close you are on your way to a party at home. This feature can be handy for safety-related purposes or for other uses. Although now keep in mind if you say, “in office’’, you better not be lying while you are enjoying your football match in a stadium with your friends.
